Where it came from
Linda og Valentin - Agenter i Tid og Rum, known internationally as Valérian and Laureline, was created in 1967 by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. The series is celebrated for its foundational role in modern science fiction comics, merging space opera with socio-political commentary. Issue number 7, titled 'Ambassadeur des Ombres' or 'Ambassadøren der forsvandt' in its Danish translation, was first serialized in Pilote magazine in 1975 before its collected publication.
The design of this installment exemplifies the series' hallmark aesthetic, characterized by Mézières' intricate, organic creature designs and Christin’s imaginative world-building. This volume is particularly noted for its sprawling, multicultural vision of the Point Central station, which had a profound influence on visual science fiction, most notably in the design aesthetics of the Star Wars franchise. Critics and scholars often cite this entry as a peak in the series, balancing complex narrative scope with the grounded, humanistic rapport between the two titular protagonists.
