Where it came from
Linda og Valentin - Agenter i Tid og Rum #8, titled 'Velkomst til Alflolol' in its original French release as 'Bienvenue sur Alflolol', was created by the creative duo of writer Pierre Christin and illustrator Jean-Claude Mézières. First appearing in the French magazine Pilote in 1971 before being collected in album format, this entry reflects the series' signature blend of space opera, social commentary, and ecological themes. Christin and Mézières utilized this story to explore themes of colonialism and environmental preservation through the lens of science fiction.
The narrative follows the protagonists as they navigate the conflict surrounding the planet Alflolol, a world rich in natural resources that has been exploited by human settlers. Mézières' artwork in this volume is noted for its distinctive, imaginative world-building and character design, which influenced the aesthetic of the European science fiction genre for decades. Upon its release, the series gained critical acclaim for its sophisticated approach to the medium, securing its place as a cornerstone of Franco-Belgian comics.
