Lobo #2

Lobo #2, published in late 1990, arrived as the second installment of the character's first self-titled prestige format miniseries. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, with the definitive visual characterization solidified by Simon Bisley, the series capitalized on the dark, satirical comic trends of the early 1990s. This issue continued the hyper-violent, tongue-in-cheek odyssey of the interstellar mercenary, positioning him as an anti-hero whose over-the-top antics provided a stark contrast to the traditional moral compass of DC Comics' mainstream roster.

Simon Bisley’s art for this series is widely cited as a benchmark in comic book illustration, characterized by a gritty, painterly aesthetic and exaggerated anatomical proportions. The design was intended to evoke a heavy-metal, punk-rock energy that mirrored Lobo’s anarchic personality. Upon release, the series received significant critical attention for its rebellious tone, helping to cement Lobo’s status as a cult icon and establishing the template for the 'extreme' comic books that would define much of the decade’s artistic output.
