Lodoss War - Crônicas da Guerra de Lodoss: A Dama de Pharis #1

Lodoss War: A Dama de Pharis, or The Lady of Pharis, was published in Japan in the early 1990s as a prequel manga series to the original Record of Lodoss War novels. Created by Ryo Mizuno and illustrated by Akihiro Yamada, this series serves to flesh out the foundational mythology of the continent of Lodoss. Yamada’s distinct, painterly art style was chosen to evoke a classical high-fantasy aesthetic that diverged from the more common manga styles of the era, grounding the work in the tone of tabletop role-playing campaigns.

The series explores the earlier era of the continent, focusing on the origins of legendary figures who predate the protagonists of the main Record of Lodoss War narrative. It was received as a significant expansion of the franchise’s lore, helping to cement Lodoss as a comprehensive fantasy world. The work remains noted for its detailed character designs and atmospheric world-building, which solidified Yamada's reputation as a key visual contributor to the franchise's identity.
