Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san #25

Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san, known in English as Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House, is a celebrated manga series written and illustrated by Aiko Koyama. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2016, offering a gentle, culinary-focused perspective on the rigorous life of maiko apprentices in the Gion district of Kyoto. Issue 25 represents a specific entry in the long-running publication history of this narrative, which explores the domestic bond between the protagonist Kiyo, who works as a cook, and her friend Sumire, who pursues the path of a maiko.

Aiko Koyama designed the series with a focus on atmosphere and the quiet dignity of daily rituals, moving away from more dramatic tropes often found in the shonen demographic. The work was warmly received for its research and empathetic character development, eventually winning the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award. As an installment in the series, this volume reflects the established visual style and thematic consistency that has allowed the franchise to expand into anime and live-action adaptations.
