Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #12

The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves was a staple of Charlton Comics during the late 1960s and early 1970s, emerging as part of the publisher's strategy to capture the market for horror anthologies that were then experiencing a resurgence under the Comics Code Authority. Published in April 1969, issue number 12 serves as a quintessential example of the era's suspense-driven storytelling, featuring the titular occult investigator who served as a host and narrator for the series' various supernatural tales.

The design of the series leaned heavily into the classic pulpy horror aesthetic, with cover illustrations often credited to artists like Pat Boyette or Steve Ditko, who brought a distinct, moody tension to the pages. The series was designed to be affordable and accessible for newsstand readers, prioritizing fast-paced, eerie vignettes over the complex continuity found in superhero comics of the time, and remains regarded today as a charming artifact of mid-century genre fiction.
