Marvel Tales Starring Spider-Man #182

Marvel Tales was a long-running reprint series published by Marvel Comics that sought to reintroduce classic storylines to new generations of readers. Issue #182, released in December 1985, serves as a quintessential example of this format, primarily featuring a reprint of The Amazing Spider-Man #226. This practice allowed the publisher to maximize the value of their back catalog while maintaining a consistent monthly presence for their most popular character.

The core content of this issue highlights the work of writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr., whose collaboration during the early 1980s is widely considered a creative peak for the Spider-Man franchise. Their approach focused on grounding Peter Parker’s personal struggles alongside high-stakes superhuman conflicts, a tone that defined the character for a decade. While reprints were often viewed as secondary to new monthly titles, the craftsmanship behind these specific stories remains a standard-bearer for mid-eighties superhero comics.
