My Home Hero #17

My Home Hero, written by Naoki Yamakawa and illustrated by Masashi Asaki, began its serialization in Weekly Young Magazine in 2017. The series explores the desperate measures taken by a suburban salaryman, Tetsuo Tosu, after he murders his daughter’s abusive boyfriend to protect his family. Volume 17 serves as a mid-to-late installment in this tense, psychological thriller that meticulously tracks the protagonist's descent into the criminal underworld as he navigates a complex web of deceit involving organized crime syndicates.

The visual language of the series is defined by Masashi Asaki's gritty, high-contrast aesthetic, which mirrors the dark, high-stakes nature of the narrative. Asaki's work is recognized for its ability to convey profound psychological distress and suspense through detailed character expressions and stark framing. Volume 17 continues the manga's thematic focus on the moral ambiguity of paternal love and the irreversible consequences of violence, a tone that has garnered a loyal readership and critical acclaim for its subversion of the typical suspense-thriller genre.
