Where it came from
The Nana 25th Anniversary Edition series was released to commemorate the quarter-century milestone of Ai Yazawa’s seminal shojo manga, which first debuted in 1999. This special edition serves to preserve the legacy of the story, which follows the diverging paths of two young women named Nana who meet on a train to Tokyo. The series is celebrated for its grounded exploration of friendship, ambition, and the complexities of early adulthood, marking a significant departure from the more traditional tropes of the genre at the time of its original publication.
The design of these anniversary volumes focuses on high-quality presentation, often featuring updated cover art by Yazawa herself that reflects her evolving aesthetic sensibility. These editions are intended to provide a definitive reading experience for long-time enthusiasts and a refined entry point for new readers. Since its inception, Nana has been widely praised for its fashion-forward character designs and its raw, emotional honesty, cementing its status as a foundational piece of modern manga history.
