Nellie the Nurse #1

Nellie the Nurse #1 was published by Timely Comics, the predecessor to Marvel, in 1946. Created during the post-World War II era, the title was part of a broader trend in the comic industry that pivoted away from war-focused stories and toward lighthearted domestic comedy, romance, and workplace humor to appeal to a wider, diversifying readership.

The character and the series are widely attributed to the artist and writer utility player Mike Sekowsky, who would later become a legend for his long tenure on DC's Justice League of America. Sekowsky’s approach focused on breezy, episodic vignettes centered on the titular character’s romantic mishaps and hospital high jinks, effectively capturing the optimistic, consumer-driven aesthetic of the late 1940s.
