Where it came from
New X-Men #145, released in 2003, serves as part of the climactic 'Planet X' arc written by Grant Morrison. This storyline marked the conclusion of Morrison's transformative run on the title, which fundamentally reshaped the X-Men mythos by introducing more grounded, contemporary social themes and aesthetic shifts to the franchise. The issue is noted for its high-stakes narrative progression involving Xorn's betrayal and the severe escalation of the conflict within the mutant community.
The interior art for this issue was provided by Marc Silvestri, a prominent figure in 1990s comics known for his sleek, dynamic style. His involvement added a distinct visual tone to the conclusion of Morrison's tenure, contrasting with the previous artists of the run. Critics and readers often regard this era as a polarizing but essential period in modern X-Men history, credited with pushing the series toward a more mature and cinematic storytelling style that influenced the books for years to follow.
