Where it came from
New X-Men #143, published in 2003, serves as part of the climactic 'Planet X' story arc during Grant Morrison’s seminal run on the title. This era of the X-Men franchise was defined by a shift toward a more modern, cinematic sensibility, prioritizing sharp dialogue and bold, high-concept narrative twists that fundamentally reshaped the mutant hierarchy within the Marvel Universe.
The issue features artwork by Marc Silvestri, whose dynamic and detailed style complemented the dark, operatic tone established by Morrison. The cover and interior panels were received as a significant visual statement for the series, marking a period of intense creative transition that remains a focal point for fans interested in how the X-Men evolved during the early 2000s.
