Nichijô - Récits du Quotidien #1

Nichijō - Récits du Quotidien, known in Japan simply as Nichijō, was created by manga artist Keiichi Arawi and first serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in 2006. The series serves as a surreal take on the gag manga genre, focusing on the lives of high school students and the eccentric inhabitants of their town. Volume one was published to introduce a world where mundane school life is frequently interrupted by absurd, slapstick, and occasionally existential events.

The aesthetic of the series is defined by Arawi's distinct, clean, and highly expressive character designs, which contrast sharply with the often chaotic and frantic plot points. Upon its release, the work was noted for its unconventional pacing and high-energy humor, eventually achieving cult status. The French edition, published under the title Récits du Quotidien, helped expand the series' reach to international audiences who appreciated its unique blend of slice-of-life tropes and avant-garde comedic timing.
