Where it came from
Not Brand Echh issue 6 was published by Marvel Comics in early 1968, appearing during the height of the Silver Age as a satirical counterpart to the company's serious superhero titles. Created as a way for Marvel to poke fun at its own roster and the broader comic industry, the series allowed writers and artists to embrace a more chaotic, irreverent style that contrasted sharply with the established continuity of the main Marvel Universe.
The issue features work from legendary contributors like Roy Thomas and Marie Severin, who were instrumental in shaping the book's comedic tone. The design and visual storytelling leaned heavily into caricature and parody, aiming to deconstruct the tropes of standard hero books through absurd narratives and meta-commentary. It was received as a lighthearted, self-aware experiment that provided readers a chance to see their favorite characters in a less earnest, highly exaggerated light.
