Not Brand Echh #4

Not Brand Echh #4 was published by Marvel Comics in 1967 as part of the publisher's foray into satirical parody comics. During the height of the Silver Age of comic books, Stan Lee and the Marvel editorial team sought to mimic the success of Mad Magazine by poking fun at their own popular superhero lineup. The issue featured a mix of broad humor and self-referential gags that relied heavily on the established tropes of Marvel's primary continuity.

The issue includes contributions from legendary creators such as Marie Severin and Bill Everett, who leaned into the zany, low-stakes aesthetic typical of the series. The design of the book prioritized a chaotic, frantic energy, contrasting sharply with the dramatic storytelling of contemporary titles like The Amazing Spider-Man. While it was initially conceived as a temporary comedic outlet, the series found a dedicated audience who appreciated the company's willingness to critique its own growing mythology.
