Otou-san wa Kami-sama desu. #1

Otou-san wa Kami-sama desu. (Father is God) was serialized in the early 2000s, emerging during a period of experimentation within the shōjo and josei manga landscapes. The narrative explores the complex, often strained emotional dynamics between a daughter and her father, grounding its premise in the mundane difficulties of familial reconciliation. It is characteristic of the intimate, character-driven storytelling favored by its publisher during this era, focusing on interpersonal nuance rather than grand external conflicts.

The series is noted for its clean, expressive line work, which emphasizes subtle shifts in facial expressions to convey unspoken sentiment. By eschewing over-stylization, the illustrator focused on creating a grounded atmosphere that mirrored the gravity of the protagonist's internal struggle. Upon its debut, the first volume was received as a sensitive contribution to the domestic drama genre, appreciated by readers who sought grounded explorations of grief and shifting parent-child relationships.
