Otou-san wa Kami-sama desu. #2

Otou-san wa Kami-sama desu. emerged as part of the mid-2000s wave of light-hearted slice-of-life manga that blended domestic comedy with mild supernatural elements. Issue #2 continues the narrative established in the premiere, focusing on the comedic friction between a protagonist adjusting to their father's sudden transition into a divine entity. The series was designed to appeal to readers of shonen-seinen crossover magazines, prioritizing character-driven humor and expressive, clean line work that was characteristic of the era’s popular gag manga.

The creative direction for the series leaned heavily into visual gags and rapid-fire dialogue, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of the Japanese publishing houses during that period. Upon its release, the volume was received as a light, accessible entry in its genre. While it did not trigger a major industry paradigm shift, it garnered a dedicated local following that appreciated the artist's ability to balance absurd plot premises with grounded, relatable family dynamics.
