Where it came from
Outsiders #24, published by DC Comics in November 1987, emerged during the late stages of the original Outsiders series created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo. This period of the title functioned within the broader DC Universe context of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths landscape, focusing on Batman’s breakaway team of superheroes operating out of Gotham and Markovia. The series was designed to explore a more morally complex and internationally focused approach to heroism compared to the traditional Justice League dynamic.
The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the series' established aesthetic, which leaned into urban grit and espionage-themed superhero narratives. By issue #24, the creative team was working to maintain the series' identity as it approached its conclusion in 1988. The book is recognized by collectors as a transitional piece of 1980s DC history, reflecting the publisher's efforts to diversify its lineup through specialized teams during a decade of significant narrative shifts.
