Outsiders #20

Outsiders #20, published by DC Comics in 1987, emerged during a transitional period for the series created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo. Originally established as a gritty, street-level team assembled by Batman, by the mid-eighties the title had evolved into a globe-trotting ensemble cast under the stewardship of writer Mike W. Barr. This issue is part of the ongoing narrative that explored the team's internal dynamics and their struggle to maintain independence from traditional superhero institutions.

The cover and interior artwork for this era of the Outsiders frequently showcased the kinetic, detailed style characteristic of mid-eighties DC comics. Jim Aparo, a legendary artist known for his definitive runs on Batman, lent a sense of noir-inspired urgency to the characters. The series was designed to offer a darker alternative to the mainstream Justice League, focusing on characters with moral ambiguity and personal baggage, which resonated with readers looking for a more grounded approach to the DC Universe.
