Outsiders #48

Outsiders #48, published by DC Comics in December 1989, emerged during a transitional period for the team originally established by Batman. Created by writer Mike W. Barr, who defined much of the series' tone, the issue serves as part of the book's later run when the team operated without their founder. The creative direction aimed to maintain the series' reputation for exploring international espionage and geopolitical intrigue through a superhero lens, distinguishing it from the more traditional caped crusader narratives of the era.

The interior art and cover design reflect the house style of DC during the late 1980s, emphasizing dynamic action sequences and character-driven stakes. While the Outsiders title struggled to maintain the immense popularity it enjoyed at its 1983 inception, issues from this period are valued by collectors for their commitment to the established team dynamics and the gritty, realistic tension that Barr initially instilled in the characters. It stands as a testament to the mid-tier continuity projects that populated the publisher's lineup before the massive shifts of the 1990s.
