Phenomena #1

Phenomena #1 was published in 2022 as the launch of an ambitious multimedia fantasy franchise created by Brian Michael Bendis and visual artist André Lima Araújo. The series was designed to blend traditional comic book narrative with an expansive, world-building aesthetic, intentionally echoing the tone of classic epic literature while modernizing the genre for a contemporary audience. By merging Bendis's signature character-driven dialogue with Araújo's clean, sweeping linework, the creators sought to establish a distinct visual identity that felt both timeless and innovative.

Upon its release, the issue was received as a high-concept entry into the genre, notable for its immersive scope and its departure from established superhero tropes. The project emerged from a desire to develop an original mythos from the ground up, placing a strong emphasis on the environment and the socio-political fabric of its fictional world. Critics highlighted the book's ambitious scale, identifying it as a deliberate effort to craft a foundational text for a new, creator-owned universe that could sustain long-term engagement through both visual and narrative depth.
