Power Man and Iron Fist #71

Power Man and Iron Fist #71, published by Marvel Comics in July 1981, arrived during a transformative period for the series. Following the merger of the titles Luke Cage, Power Man and Iron Fist, the book leaned heavily into the buddy-cop dynamic between the street-level hero Luke Cage and the martial artist Danny Rand. This specific issue reflects the era's transition toward more grounded, character-driven narratives within the superhero genre, distancing itself from the more fantastical roots of the 1970s.

The creative direction for this period was guided by writer Mary Jo Duffy and artist Kerry Gammill. Duffy, known for her witty dialogue and complex character arcs, worked to deepen the bond between the two leads, often injecting humor and urban realism into their partnership. Gammill’s illustrative style, characterized by clean lines and dynamic action sequences, was instrumental in defining the visual language of the book at the time. The title was generally well-received for its chemistry and the unique contrast between the two protagonists' personalities.
