Power Man and Iron Fist #87

Published by Marvel Comics in 1982, Power Man and Iron Fist #87 represents a key moment in the long-running series that paired Luke Cage and Danny Rand. This era of the title is recognized for its shift toward a more street-level, noir-inspired detective aesthetic, moving away from the purely martial arts focus of earlier years to better reflect the gritty urban environment of New York City. The dynamic between the powerhouse Cage and the more disciplined, mystical Rand provided a unique buddy-cop energy that distinguished the book within the broader Marvel catalog.

The issue features cover and interior work indicative of the collaborative efforts common at Marvel during the early 1980s, often balancing the narrative demands of ongoing character development with the standard superhero action expectations of the time. The title was a critical component of Marvel’s attempt to diversify its narrative themes, exploring social issues and camaraderie through the lens of two very different men forming a private investigation firm. It remains a notable entry for collectors who value the evolution of these characters before their later, massive cultural resurgence.
