Where it came from
Protectors #6 was published in 1992 during the height of the independent superhero comic book boom. Released by Malibu Comics as part of their Protectors series, the title was an attempt to revitalize characters originally owned by the defunct Centaur Comics, reimagining Golden Age heroes within a gritty, modern narrative framework.
The series featured work by industry veterans like Bill Messner-Loebs, who sought to balance nostalgic appeal with the darker, deconstructed sensibilities popular in the early 1990s. While it was well-received by fans of the publisher's ambitious attempt to build a shared universe, the series remains a niche artifact of the era's speculative comic market.
