Where it came from
Pugaciòff Mostri & Magie #1 emerged during the mid-1970s as part of a series of promotional mini-comics distributed alongside Standa department store products in Italy. The series featured the character Pugaciòff, a mischievous fox originally created by Giorgio Rebuffi, reimagined within a fantasy context to capitalize on the burgeoning interest in occult and monster-themed comics of that era.
The design of these booklets was modest, prioritizing portability and mass distribution to young shoppers. Rebuffi’s distinct, rounded illustration style provided a friendly anchor for the more supernatural motifs present in the 'Mostri & Magie' (Monsters & Magic) series. While these issues were intended as disposable promotional materials, they have since gained a dedicated following among Italian comic archivists who appreciate them as artifacts of 1970s commercial graphic ephemera.
