Where it came from
Wraith Arc serves as a manga bridge between the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series and the film Rebellion. Serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward beginning in 2015, the series was written by the original production studio, Magica Quartet, and illustrated by Hanokage. The intent behind this arc was to explore the immediate aftermath of the series finale and the logistical shifts in the magical girl system following Madoka Kaname's transformation into a concept.
Issue number three continues the narrative focused on the lingering influence of Walpurgisnacht and the nature of the Wraiths that replaced Witches. Hanokage, who also illustrated the manga adaptations of the original anime, maintained a consistent visual style that mirrored the show's dark, surreal aesthetic. The work was received by fans as a critical piece of expanded lore, valued for clarifying the structural mechanics of the universe before the events of the subsequent film.
