Ryōma ga Yuku #16

Ryōma ga Yuku, written by the acclaimed historical novelist Ryōtarō Shiba, was serialized in the Sankei Shimbun starting in 1963. The work is a monumental fictionalized biography of Sakamoto Ryōma, the late-Edo period samurai who played a pivotal role in the Meiji Restoration. As a cornerstone of modern Japanese historical literature, the series was instrumental in shaping the contemporary public image of Ryōma as a visionary, progressive figure rather than just a historical relic.

Issue #16 is part of the long-form publication history of this narrative, which spans multiple volumes and tankōbon formats. Shiba's prose is celebrated for its precise research balanced with deep psychological insight into the samurai spirit during Japan's tumultuous transition to modernity. The series has been widely praised for its literary influence, frequently adapted for television and manga, and remains a definitive text on the political landscape of nineteenth-century Japan.
