Sake no Hosomichi DX: Shiki no Sakana #1

Sake no Hosomichi DX: Shiki no Sakana, launched as a specialized sub-series within the long-running Sake no Hosomichi manga franchise, was created to celebrate the intersection of traditional Japanese culinary culture and seasonal drinking customs. Written and illustrated by Fumiyaラ拉, the original series gained a devoted following for its instructional yet narrative approach to izakaya etiquette and the appreciation of sake. This DX spin-off specifically focuses on the seasonal pairing of fish—the 'shiki no sakana'—offering readers a refined look at how changing environmental conditions influence regional seafood and the appropriate sake selections to accompany them.

The aesthetic of the series remains consistent with the author's signature style, characterized by detailed, somewhat grounded illustrations of food and drink that prioritize sensory appeal and accuracy. It emerged from a period of increased interest in niche, hobby-focused manga in Japan, where readers sought media that combined entertainment with practical, expert-level knowledge. The reception was positive among fans of the original work, who appreciated the deepened focus on seasonal delicacies and the thoughtful, meditative pace of the narrative, which effectively functions as both a comic and a cultural guide.
