Sam Slade Robo-Hunter #25

Sam Slade Robo-Hunter debuted in the pages of the British science fiction anthology 2000 AD in 1978. Created by writer John Wagner and artist Ian Gibson, the series was designed as a satirical take on the hard-boiled detective genre, transplanting the archetype into a future populated by temperamental robots. Issue 25 fits into the serialized narratives that defined the magazine's golden era, reflecting the high-energy, tongue-in-cheek aesthetic that garnered a dedicated cult following among British comic readers.

Ian Gibson’s visual style was instrumental to the success of the character, utilizing intricate line work and a distinct sense of kinetic humor that balanced the story's futuristic grit with absurd comedy. The series was well-received for its ability to critique consumer culture and the anxieties of technological advancement through the eyes of the cynical, cigar-chomping private investigator Sam Slade. It remains a hallmark of the 2000 AD legacy, recognized for its contribution to the evolution of adult-oriented science fiction comics in the United Kingdom.
