Sammy & Jack Integral #5

The Sammy & Jack series, created by the Belgian artist Marc Wasterlain, first appeared in the late 1970s within the pages of Spirou magazine. These adventures, centering on the titular boy and his robotic companion, were developed during a period when Franco-Belgian comics were shifting toward more whimsical, science-fiction influenced narratives. The integral editions were later compiled to preserve Wasterlain’s distinct, clean-lined aesthetic and his gentle approach to world-building, which often emphasized curiosity and humanistic themes over traditional heroics.

The design of the Sammy & Jack Integrals serves as a retrospective tribute to Wasterlain’s career, organizing his output into definitive chronological collections. These volumes were curated to showcase the evolution of his visual style, which is characterized by fluid motion and expressive character designs. Upon their release, these compilations were well-received by fans of the classic 'école de Marcinelle' style, providing a comprehensive record of a series that occupies a niche but highly respected position in European comic history.
