Savage Dragon #281

Savage Dragon #281, released in 2023, serves as a significant chapter in the long-running creator-owned superhero series written and illustrated by Erik Larsen. Since its inception in 1992 under the Image Comics banner, the series has been noted for its rare commitment to real-time aging and continuous, serialized storytelling, with Larsen acting as both writer and artist for nearly every issue to ensure a singular creative vision.

This specific issue reflects the series' tradition of blending pulp-inspired science fiction with visceral, high-stakes superhero action. As part of the ongoing narrative following Malcolm Dragon, the issue maintains the stark, bold aesthetic that defined the Image era of the 1990s while adapting to the evolving sensibilities of modern independent comics. It is viewed by collectors as a testament to the longevity of creator-driven work, preserved through Larsen's persistent dedication to his central character over three decades.
