Secret Origins #45

Secret Origins #45 was published by DC Comics in November 1989 as part of a long-running series dedicated to retelling and updating the backstories of various established characters. During this era of the late 1980s, DC often utilized these anthologies to bridge the gap between their post-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity and the classic iterations of their heroes, offering readers a deeper look at the psychological foundations of their roster.

This specific issue features stories centering on the character The Elongated Man, written by Gerard Jones with artwork by Carmine Infantino. Infantino, a legendary figure in comic book history, provided a distinct visual style that echoed his influential work on the Flash during the Silver Age. The issue was received as a respectful homage to the lighter, detective-oriented roots of the character, providing a traditional narrative structure that contrasted with the grittier, darker tones prevalent in many other mainstream comics of that period.
