Sergio Aragonés Groo #2

Groo the Wanderer, issue number two, was published in 1982 by Pacific Comics during the character's transition from an occasional back-up feature in Destroyer Duck to a solo title. Created by cartoonist Sergio Aragonés and writer Mark Evanier, the series was born from Aragonés's desire to lampoon the sword-and-sorcery tropes popularized by Conan the Barbarian. The humor relies on the juxtaposition of Groo’s formidable combat skills with his profound lack of intelligence and tendency to cause catastrophic accidental destruction.

The visual identity of the book is defined entirely by Aragonés's signature loose, kinetic ink style, which captures both slapstick violence and subtle facial expressions without the need for excessive dialogue. At the time of this issue's release, the title was praised for its unique blend of cynical satire and lighthearted adventure. Critics and readers noted that the series stood out in the early 1980s comic market for its consistent creative team and its ability to remain accessible while poking fun at the self-serious nature of mainstream fantasy comics.
