Where it came from
Groo the Wanderer issue 105 was published by Image Comics in 1995, marking a transitional period for the long-running series created by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier. The title originally debuted at Pacific Comics in 1982 before moving to Marvel's Epic imprint and later finding a home at Image, reflecting the industry's shifting landscape for independent creator-owned properties during the mid-nineties.
The series remains a masterclass in visual storytelling, defined by Aragonés’s signature fluid, pantomime-style illustration and Evanier’s sharp, satirical writing. Issue 105 continues the adventures of the dim-witted but incredibly lethal barbarian Groo and his loyal dog Rufferto. Like its predecessors, the issue serves as a comedic subversion of sword-and-sorcery tropes, praised consistently by critics and fans for its ability to maintain high-energy slapstick humor and nuanced character dynamics over decades of publication.
