Where it came from
Shaolin #2 was published in 1974 by Charlton Comics, arriving during a period when the American comic industry was heavily influenced by the global explosion of martial arts cinema. The series was designed to capitalize on the popularity of figures like Bruce Lee and the television success of Kung Fu, positioning the comic as an action-oriented narrative within the publisher's diverse, low-budget lineup of genre fiction.
The art and storytelling followed the typical house style of Charlton Comics, focusing on kinetic layouts and melodramatic character dynamics common to the era's martial arts exploitation titles. While the series was not a long-running commercial juggernaut, it occupies a significant place in comic history as a quintessential example of how mainstream publishers pivoted to mirror pop culture trends of the mid-1970s.
