Sonic to Yūki no Tsurugi #2

Sonic to Yūki no Tsurugi, or Sonic and the Sword of Courage, was a short-lived Japanese manga series published in the early 1990s. The series was designed as a tie-in to the burgeoning global popularity of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, aiming to translate the fast-paced energy of the platforming games into a traditional shonen comic format. It reflects the period when Sega was aggressively licensing the Sonic brand to expand its multimedia presence across print media in Japan.

The illustrations for this series sought to capture a distinctively Japanese aesthetic, differing significantly from the character designs seen in Western adaptations of the same era. While the series was intended to build loyalty among younger readers and players of the Mega Drive games, it remains a niche artifact. It is largely appreciated by modern collectors for its unique take on Sonic's lore and as a reflection of how international gaming icons were localized for the Japanese market during the 16-bit console wars.
