Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1

Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1 represents a crossover event published by IDW Publishing, which holds the licensing rights for both the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and the Godzilla franchise. The project was conceived to merge Sega’s high-speed mascot with Toho’s iconic kaiju, capitalizing on the popularity of IDW's long-running licensed comic properties. The narrative aim was to bridge the tonal gap between Sonic's vibrant, action-oriented world and the catastrophic scale of the Godzilla universe.

The creative direction for this issue leaned into the visual spectacle required to showcase characters of such vastly different scales. Artists were tasked with maintaining the established design language of Sonic, as seen in the ongoing IDW series, while rendering Godzilla with a sense of immense weight and menace. Upon release, the issue was marketed as a definitive fan-service event, drawing interest from readers of both respective franchises and serving as a showcase for the logistical integration of two distinct intellectual properties within a single comic book medium.
