Star Wars: Visions - Tsukumo #1

Star Wars: Visions - Tsukumo #1 was released in 2023 as part of the Star Wars: Visions comic series published by Marvel Comics. The issue serves as a direct expansion of the anthology approach established in the Disney+ animated series, which invited various international animation studios to reimagine the Star Wars universe through distinct cultural lenses. This specific narrative focuses on the concept of 'tsukumogami'—Japanese spirits that inhabit objects after a hundred years—bridging traditional folklore with the Force-centric mythology of the franchise.

Written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki, the work reflects his signature kinetic style, previously known from his work on Afro Samurai. Okazaki was tasked with blending the visual iconography of the Jedi and Sith with the aesthetic of Edo-period Japan. Upon its release, the comic was noted for its departure from traditional Western comic conventions, receiving praise for its atmospheric storytelling and the intentional integration of Japanese spiritual traditions into a space-fantasy setting.
