Suicide Squad #48

Suicide Squad #48 was published in December 1990 as part of the original ongoing series written by John Ostrander. This issue falls within the latter half of Ostrander’s seminal run, which reimagined the team as a government-sanctioned black-ops unit comprised of expendable incarcerated villains. The series is credited with modernizing the concept of the anti-hero team, focusing on gritty political intrigue and the moral ambiguity of characters like Amanda Waller and Deadshot.

The cover art and interior illustrations for this period were characteristic of the house style at DC Comics during the early 1990s. The issue contributes to the series' broader reputation for exploring the psychological toll of state-sponsored violence and the internal dynamics of a squad where members are constantly at risk of termination. While it does not feature a major character death often cited in 'event' issues, it remains a representative entry of the character-driven storytelling that defined Ostrander's long-term influence on the DC Universe.
