Where it came from
Super Friends #31, released in April 1980, was part of a long-running DC Comics series inspired by the popular Saturday morning animated program produced by Hanna-Barbera. These comics were designed to bridge the gap between the television show's tone and the more mature continuity of the mainstream DC Universe, allowing younger readers to explore team-ups between iconic heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman alongside lesser-known characters like the Wonder Twins and Gleek.
The issue features artwork by E. Nelson Bridwell, who served as a primary writer and editor for the series, known for his encyclopedic knowledge of DC history and his commitment to consistency across the publisher's titles. The creative direction aimed to maintain a lighthearted, accessible spirit while occasionally introducing more complex plots that rewarded long-time readers, cementing the series as a nostalgic staple of the Bronze Age of comics.
