Super-Villain Team-Up #17

Super-Villain Team-Up #17 was published in 1980 as part of a brief revival of the series, which originally focused on the uneasy alliances between Doctor Doom and Namor the Sub-Mariner. This issue serves as a standalone rarity, arriving long after the main title concluded its primary run in 1978. It reflects the experimental period of Marvel Comics at the time, where editors looked to conclude lingering subplots or utilize inventory stories that had been left dormant in the archives.

The issue features work by writer Steven Grant and artist Herb Trimpe, a veteran illustrator whose gritty, kinetic style was a staple of the era. The narrative sought to provide closure to existing tensions within the established canon of the Doctor Doom mythos. Because it was released as an off-beat, late-addition installment rather than a core monthly release, it is often sought by collectors as a distinct bibliographic curiosity rather than a narrative tentpole.
