Superman #48

Superman #48 was published by DC Comics in September 1947, during the post-World War II era of the Golden Age of comics. By this point in the character's history, the creative team was well-established, with the Superman editorial office overseeing the output of various writers and artists to maintain the iconic tone of the Man of Steel. This period focused on standalone adventures that cemented Superman's role as a protector of Metropolis, leaning into the character's dual identity and his budding supporting cast.

The cover art for this issue is credited to Wayne Boring, a pivotal artist who served as a primary ghost artist for Joe Shuster and eventually defined the quintessential look of the character throughout the 1940s and 1950s. Boring’s style is noted for giving Superman a more robust, athletic physique compared to earlier iterations, which resonated with readers who viewed the character as a symbol of mid-century strength and reliability. The issue remains a sought-after piece for collectors of the Golden Age, representing a moment of stability and creative refinement before the stylistic shifts of the Silver Age.
