Where it came from
Superman #672, published in 2008, serves as part of the 'Camelot Falls' storyline written by Kurt Busiek with interior art by Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino. This issue was crafted during a period when DC Comics was aiming to re-establish the gravitas and moral weight of the Superman mythos, placing the hero in conflict with a prophetic view of a dystopian future. The narrative explores themes of inevitable tragedy and the limitations of Superman's power in the face of predestination.
The visual direction by Pacheco and Merino emphasizes a classic, heroic aesthetic consistent with the mid-2000s house style, focusing on dynamic layouts and emotive character work. The issue is noted by collectors as a transitional moment within the 'Third Kryptonian' arc, reflecting the publisher's editorial push to modernize long-standing concepts through high-stakes, epic-scale storytelling that honored the character's traditional sensibilities while testing his ethical resolve.
