Superman #42

Superman #42 was published by DC Comics in September 1946, a period during the Golden Age of comic books when the character had firmly established himself as a cultural icon. Following the end of World War II, the narrative tone of Superman stories began to shift slightly, moving away from the wartime propaganda and direct involvement in global conflicts toward more fantastical adventures and recurring rogues' gallery encounters.

The issue features cover art by Wayne Boring, one of the most definitive Superman artists of the era. Boring’s distinct, heavy-lined style helped solidify the visual language of the character, emphasizing a more robust and heroic anatomy that became the standard for the mid-1940s. The comic was produced under the editorial direction of Whitney Ellsworth, contributing to the consistent, high-energy storytelling that sustained Superman’s immense popularity among post-war youth.
