Where it came from
Released in 2006, Superman/Batman #25 serves as an anthology-style tribute issue marking the conclusion of the series' first major story arc under the guidance of editor Matt Idelson. The issue was conceived as a showcase for various creative teams to interpret the iconic dynamic between the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, acting as a bridge between ongoing narrative threads while celebrating the legacy of the duo within the DC Universe.
The issue features an eclectic mix of talent, including contributions from creators like Brad Meltzer, Ed McGuinness, and Joe Kelly. The design and artistic direction were intended to evoke the varied visual history of both characters, balancing the bright, optimistic aesthetic typically associated with Superman against the moody, noir-inspired atmosphere of Batman. It was received by fans as a thoughtful, experimental entry that prioritized character study over long-term continuity shifts.
