Teen Titans #1

Published by DC Comics in 1966, Teen Titans #1 marked the first standalone title for a team that had previously appeared in shared anthologies like The Brave and the Bold. Bob Haney and artist Nick Cardy established the series during a period when DC was looking to capitalize on the popularity of their younger sidekicks, Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl. The series was designed to capture a more youthful, independent spirit than the traditional Justice League, intentionally shifting the focus toward the trials and tribulations of teenage heroism.

Nick Cardy’s iconic cover and interior work defined the aesthetic of the era, blending vibrant pop-art influences with a sense of energetic movement that appealed to the mid-sixties youth demographic. While the book was initially received as a lighthearted spin-off, it eventually gained significant historical importance for its role in evolving the team into the more complex, angst-driven group that would later dominate the medium in the 1980s under Marv Wolfman and George Pérez.
