Where it came from
The Amazing Spider-Man #545, published by Marvel Comics in January 2008, serves as the final installment of the controversial 'One More Day' story arc. Written by J. Michael Straczynski with art by Joe Quesada, the issue concludes the narrative restructuring of Peter Parker's life following the events of the Civil War crossover, effectively resetting the character's status quo by erasing his marriage to Mary Jane Watson through a supernatural bargain with the demon Mephisto.
The visual design and execution were spearheaded by Joe Quesada, then Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, whose approach aimed to strip away years of continuity that the editorial team felt limited Spider-Man's potential for new stories. While the issue remains a pivotal technical milestone in modern comic history, it was met with significant backlash from long-time readers who felt the resolution undermined decades of character development, cementing its reputation as one of the most debated issues in the medium.
