The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #14

Published by Marvel Comics in 1980, The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #14 serves as a significant milestone in the Spider-Man mythos as it features the first full appearance of Julia Carpenter, the second Spider-Woman. The issue was crafted by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Frank Miller, a legendary creative pairing during the Bronze Age of comics. Their intent was to expand the Spider-Man universe by introducing a new character with a more mysterious, government-aligned origin, differentiating her from the established Jessica Drew incarnation.

The reception of this annual was largely positive, particularly due to the kinetic, noir-influenced art style that Frank Miller was developing at the time. By embedding the narrative within the high-stakes environment of international espionage and superhuman politics, O'Neil and Miller successfully provided a grounded entry point for a new hero. The issue remains a sought-after piece for collectors of key character debuts and is celebrated for its role in bridging the gap between traditional superhero storytelling and the gritty, character-driven style that would come to define 1980s comics.
