Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in 1990, The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #24 was part of the 'Days of Future Present' crossover event. This narrative arc spanned the annuals of The Amazing Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, The New Mutants, and X-Factor, effectively serving as a thematic sequel to the seminal 'Days of Future Past' storyline. The project was conceived to integrate the X-Men’s complex temporal conflicts into the wider Marvel universe, focusing on the character Franklin Richards and the return of the Sentinels.
The issue features a script by Fabian Nicieza and artwork by Herb Trimpe, a legendary veteran whose bold, classic style provided a grounded aesthetic for the fantastical plot. The creative team aimed to balance high-stakes time-travel drama with the grounded street-level perspective of Spider-Man. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of Marvel's late-80s and early-90s crossover strategy, which prioritized continuity-heavy storytelling and large-scale editorial events to incentivize cross-title collecting.
