The Amazing Venom #1

The Amazing Venom #1 was released by Marvel Comics in 2018 as part of an effort to reinvigorate the character’s solo narratives during a period when the publisher was leaning heavily into the dark, cosmic horror elements of the Venom lore. The title was designed to refocus on Eddie Brock as he grappled with the implications of the Knull mythos, establishing a grittier and more expansive tone for the character outside of his traditional entanglement with Spider-Man.

The series was written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Ryan Stegman. Cates and Stegman intended for the title to serve as both a jumping-on point for new readers and a deep-dive exploration of the symbiote's origins. Upon its release, the creative direction was widely praised by critics and fans for its kinetic energy and bold structural changes to the established history of the symbiote, quickly solidifying itself as a significant modern entry in the Marvel canon.
